Today, NOAA is announcing that it will re-open 26,388 square miles of Gulf waters to commercial and recreational fishing in the southeastern portion of the closed area. This reopening, a third of the overall closed area, is being announced after consultation with FDA and under a re-opening protocol agreed to by NOAA, the FDA, and the Gulf states. The reopening of these areas will be effective beginning 6pm ET today.

House Backs Update of Flood Insurance (Washington Post (07/16/10) P. A16)

The House has voted to revamp the National Flood Insurance Program by increasing premiums, deductibles and coverage; and phasing out subsidies for vacation homes and for people living in flood-prone areas. The Senate will now take up the bill for the NFIP, which is saddled with debt due to billions of dollars of losses from Hurricane Katrina and population growth in flood zones and which has not been updated by Congress since
1994.

Interestingly enough, I am asked this not necessarily because my clients want to purchase in Destin, Florida or are looking for things to do, but because they’ve been contacted by an agent in Destin to help them purchase in Panama City Beach, Florida.

Destin is at minimum 1 hour away from Panama City Beach, Florida and approximately 47 miles.  Destin is located in Okaloosa County where as Panama City Beach is located in Bay County.  Here’s a small map to help visualize the travel time.

Panama City Beach real estateThe latest postings of the June 2010,  Panama City real estate market summaries are now available for download.

Panama City Beach condo sales increased slightly while prices dropped a bit during June month. This is obviously good news for buyers wanting to purchase vacation condo on the gulf.

Prices on single family home prices increased slightly while sales volume dipped.

We also continue to experience higher than normal volumes of visitors to the Panama City real estate website, as well as higher than normal rental inquiries.
